New lifeguards qualify

The end of April saw the club qualify 7 new Surf Lifeguards and 5 surf lifesavers who will be voluntarily patrolling Exmouth beach this summer.  The courses cover a mixture of 1st aid, rescue and patrol methods as well as fitness tests.  A huge commitment by all to make sure they passed with flying colours.

The volunteers will also help to run junior surf life saving sport training as well as provide safety cover at a range of local and national open water swims and triathlons.

The club's voluntary lifeguard patrols begin on Sunday 29th May and will cover Sundays and Bank Holidays until September.

If you would like to become qualified as a lifeguard, take part in surf life saving sport and help us in any other way please contact us

The longest day

A busy week was finished off with a fun day of patrolling and training at Exmouth.

There was a good turnout for the day with 6 guards and 4 junior surf life savers assisting.

It was reasonably quiet all day with junior training taken by Tom with help from Kim; Snowy took Jake for ski training ready for Devons and we had a nice phys session on the beach with Tom.

Around 16.00 we were tasked by Solent coastguard and Dawlish surf lifesaving club  to recover a rib drifting off Dawlish.  We towed it back to Dawlish beach, reuniting it with very grateful owners.

On our return we were asked to assist the RNLI guards with the recovery of a kite surfer drifting out by the channel entrance.

Final Hyde Park Triathlon Lifeguarded

Keith, Vicki and Dan provided safety cover at our first triathlon of the season this weekend.  The club members give up their weekend to "work", with any money they would have made being donated to the club.

Taking place on the 30th & 31st May 2015, The Vitality World Triathlon London is one of the world's leading triathlon events and one of only two legacy events from the 2012 Olympic games still open to public participation with over 5000 entries for this years event!  In the elite race Great Britain’s Alistair Brownlee recorded his second win of the season as he triumphed on home soil at the 2015 ITU World Triathlon London on Sunday.

Hyde Park is the first of many events this year both local and national that the clubs volunteers will provide safety cover at.  A huge thanks to all of our clubs members involved!
